Axel Springer Finalizes £575m Acquisition of The Telegraph

European media giant Axel Springer has successfully completed its purchase of The Telegraph following regulatory clearance.

Axel Springer has finalized its acquisition of The Telegraph in a deal valued at approximately £575 million. The transaction follows the receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals, formally transferring ownership of the prestigious British newspaper to the European media conglomerate.

A Historic Union

Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer, highlighted the historical significance of the merger, noting that his company was originally founded under a British press license in 1946. He described The Telegraph as a guiding inspiration for the organization.

The executive emphasized that both entities are united by shared core values, including a dedication to freedom and a tradition of embracing technological innovation. Döpfner stated that the combined organization is driven by an entrepreneurial spirit aimed at actively shaping the future of the media landscape.
