Authorities in New South Wales have deployed an AI-equipped drone to rescue two hikers who became lost in Kosciuszko National Park. Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) reported that the men in their 20s had deviated from their designated walking track near Jindabyne. The incident marks the first time the service has used AI-powered drone technology for a live rescue operation.
Rapid Location Strategy
The operation commenced after the hikers were reported missing at 7:00 PM on Tuesday when they failed to meet their group at a scheduled rendezvous point. The drone utilized advanced thermal imaging sensors combined with a detection system designed to identify mobile phone light signals. This technological approach allowed the rescue team to pinpoint the men’s location in dense bushland within five hours of the report being filed.
